Moses, Rod

Rod Moses, a long-time resident of Fort Macleod, passed away in Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Jan. 24, 2004. Born in Dummer, Sask. in 1916, Rod had just celebrated his 88th birthday with family.
There will be a remembrance service held at the United Church Hall on Monday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m., giving friends and family an opportunity to gather, remember and celebrate Rod’s life.
Rod was known to most of Fort Macleod’s citizens during his working days as he was the long-time manager of the Alberta Liquor Control Board (ALCB) store. Rod was No. 2 on employee seniority list when he retired having worked 40-plus years for the ALCB. As with most small town business managers, Rod was involved with many of the town’s charitable and service organizations. A long-time Rotarian, Legionnaire and Mason, Rod worked hard at helping where he could.
Rod was predeceased by Blanche Moses, his loving wife of 59 years, and always-positive daughter Kathryn Ann Bokor.
Rod is survived and will always be fondly remembered by his son Jim Moses; daughter-in-law Marilyn Moses; niece Donna (Keith) Crawford; brother Ralph Moses (last surviving sibling of five); grandchildren April Moses-Campbell, Angela Rayner, Michelle Moses, Suzanne Stearns, Renee Herter; seven great-grandchildren as well as Jacko Bokor and many other family members and friends.
Rod was not much of a social butterfly but enjoyed family and friends in bite-sized pieces. He was from the old school where a penny saved was a penny earned. And while he didn’t end up with that many pennies, he sure didn’t spend much — on material things at least (much more went to support and further family members).
He built a small repair shop onto his house and would spend hours fixing the things he had. He was gifted with the ability to “sign write” that is now a lost art with the development of computer graphics. It was his second job for many years and many of the older building signs and billboards are his handiwork. He took up painting landscapes later in life and many are still enjoyed by family members. Rod and Blanche enjoyed their retirement. Going to Nevada was a regular occurrence when they were in their 70s.
Jim, Suzanne and Renee would like to say a special thanks to:

  • Donna Crawford for looking after Rod’s immediate needs and visiting him regularly.
  • Those who live locally and gave a helping hand (Phil and Eileen Moses, Brent and Jean Nelson, Bob and Linda Ripley, Jean Swihart and others).
  • Angela O’Connor and other Home Care staff.
  • Staff and residents of the Pioneer Lodge for all the love, caring and assistance they afforded Rod.
  • His medical support — Dr. Wildeboer, Dr. David, Dr. Wild and Dr. Holland

Rod — Be well and may God Bless and say hi to Kathy and Blanche for us.
