Orr, Ernest Garth

Ernest Garth Orr left this earth and returned home to his Heavenly Father on Oct. 16, 2004, after a brief illness.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1921, in Orton, Alta., the son of Ernest R. Orr and Mary E. Hornberger.
He married Betty McMurray in 1948. After her death, he married JoAnne Swainston Criddle.
Garth grew up with brothers, sisters and many relatives on the prairie in sunny Alberta. He was educated in a one-room school house in Orton, attended technical college in Calgary and later the University of Utah.
He served for four years in the Canadian army during World War Two, in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he moved to Utah where he married and raised his family. He worked for Mutual of Omaha Insurance for many years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He came from a great heritage and blessed his family in many ways with his example of faithfulness, humility, service and loyalty. Garth’s wit, jokes and sense of humour endeared him to friends and family.
He served with the East Millcreek Lions Club. He loved people and had many friends.
Garth is survived by his dear wife, JoAnne; son Martin (Kris); daughter Jolene (Dennis); stepchildren, Craig (Karrie), Sandy (Steve), Mark (JoLynn), Deanna (Kent), Brian (Jerrilee), and Brent (Stacy); sisters Alta Neilson and Marilyn Spencer; brothers, Alma, Don, Wayne and Keith, who live in Canada; many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will remember and miss him.
Garth was preceded in death by his daughter Christine and stepson Doug.
Funeral services for Garth were held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2002, at 12 noon at Valley View Ninth Ward, 4101 South 1925 East (Gunderson Lane).
