Muriel Josephine Day, beloved wife of the late Bill Day of Fort Macleod, died March 23, 2005, at the age of 82.
Muriel was born in Lethbridge on Nov. 24, 1922, to Fred and Beatrice Thaell, Fred being a tailor and clothier in Lethbridge. The family moved to Fort Macleod where Muriel was educated and worked at Price’s Rexall Drug Store.
She married Bill, her high school sweetheart, in May 1945 in a dress made of wartime parachute silk. She took great pleasure in her dress being worn by her granddaughter in 1999.
Bill and Muriel lived briefly in Lethbridge and then returned to Fort Macleod where Bill worked and Muriel lived out her calling as mother and homemaker, although she enjoyed working casually with her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Kay, at Thaell’s Men’s and Ladies&Mac226; Wear.
Until Bill’s passing in 1992, he and Muriel were a great team. They loved family times, gardening together, camping, and trips with friends Mac and Grace Kennedy.
Muriel was a member of Trinity United Church, and especially enjoyed Lewis Auxiliary. Muriel was an excellent cook, baker and knitter; family and community being the appreciative recipients.
Muriel took great pleasure in her grandchildren and little great grandchildren. She was proud of her close family and often boasted that you couldn’t tell which kids were Bob’s and which were Sharon’s.
Muriel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Ric Swihart of Lethbridge; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Cathie Day of Fort Macleod; grandchildren Jason and Geordie Day; Kristin, Lissa, Bryn and Kalyn Swihart; Heidi and Shawn Davis and their children Brinley, Luke and Nate; her sister and brother-in-law Doris and Jack Davis of Spruce Grove; by the Days, Jeannie, Gordon, Grant and Evelyn; and by all her special nieces and nephews.
Although it was hard to leave her home, Muriel returned to Lethbridge in October 2004 and enjoyed the staff and residents at Sunrise Village.
Thank you family, friends, and health professionals for your love and care.
