Richardt, Melvin Donald

Melvin Donald Richardt died suddenly at his residence in Golden on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 at the age of 59 years.
A funeral service was held from Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden on Tuesday, Jan. 25 with Pastor Ron Tabbert officiating. Pallbearers were Don Howe, Gord Mather, Dave Ward, Tom Loader, Ken Hamilton, Andrew Sommerville, Laird Pittman and Brian Moyer. Honorary pallbearers were John Macintosh, Rob Friesen, Glen Friesen, David Friesen, Jay Barlow, Gordon Butler, Philip Eckman and Neil Eckman. Cremation followed the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2nd Floor, 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C. V6H 3Y2 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, c/o Box 478, Golden, B.C. V0A 1H0, in memory of Melvin.
Melvin was born in Pincher Creek on March 14, 1945, and had been a resident of Golden since 1971. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and K-40 Clubs of Golden. Melvin liked to travel and do exploring, but especially enjoyed returning home to his yard which was his pride and joy.
He loved time spent with his family, especially family picnics. Melvin loved his job and most importantly loved to tell jokes and play pranks on his family and friends.
Melvin was predeceased by his father Henry in 1982, brother Elmer in 1987, father-in-law Edgar Eckman in 1979, mother-in-law Jessie Eckman in 1988 and brother-in-law Wayne Eckman in 2002.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat of Golden; daughter Laura (Andrew) Sommerville of Calgary; mother Ida Richardt of Fort Macleod, sister Doreen (Cleon) Friesen of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law Eva Richardt of Medicine Hat and Rose Eckman of Kimberley; brothers-in-law Neil (Erika) Eckman of Calgary and Philip Eckman of Toronto and sister-in-law Janice Eckman of Revelstoke as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of good friends.
