Berlando, Ted and Irene

The family would like to announce the deaths of Ted and Irene Berlando. Both died peacefully, nine hours apart, in the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.
Ted and Irene were long-time residents of southern Alberta. Ted was born in Coalhurst on July 5, 1924, to Edward and Albina Berlando, and Irene in Lethbridge on Dec. 17, 1918, to Thomas and Lillian Llewellyn.
During their lives both participated in a variety of sports. Irene was active in track and field, hockey and fastball in her youth and later in life was an avid bowler, curler and golfer.
Ted played hockey and fastball in his youth but was best known as a golfer and is the past president of the Henderson Lake Golf Club.
Ted worked for many years on the railroad and also held positions as the manager of the Henderson Lake Golf Club and Hy’s Steak Out. He also worked for the City of Lethbridge as manager of concessions in the Sportsplex.
Irene sold jewellery at Eatons, Foster’s, Siemen’s and Margarite’s and ended her working life as a proofreader for the Lethbridge Herald. Later both Ted and Irene managed the Starlite Motel.
Ted was a first Class Stoker aboard the “Monnow” which was assigned to guard convoys between Britain and Mermansk during World War Two.
They ended their lives as residents of Pioneer Lodge and Rosewood Villa in Fort Macleod and the Good Samaritan Society’s West Highlands Centre in Lethbridge.
Their grandson Tom Wevers and Ted’s brother Nilli and sister Inez predeceased Ted and Irene.
They are survived by their children Rob Jeacock (Marti), Brenda Wevers (John) and Ron Berlando (Wendy); their grandchildren Paula Degner (Dean), Mike Wevers (Robin), Kim Chalmers (Jesse), Lori Watson, Nicole and Brandon Berlando; and their great grandchildren Brendon and Ryan Degner, Dawson and Ty Wevers, and Brody Bucsis (Chalmers) and Brookelyn Chalmers; as well as nieces and nephews and their families.
Family and friends were invited to a celebration of the lives of Ted and Irene held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Martin Bros. Riverview Chapel, 610 Fourth St. S., Lethbridge, with Rev. Hugh Jack officiating.
