De Boer, Dorothy (nee Krythe)

Dorothy De Boer (nee Krythe) passed away to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006. Romans 10:9: ³That if you confess with your mouth, ŒJesus is Lord¹ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.² Dorothy was born on June 18, 1917 on a farm north of Fort Macleod, across the road from the Hollandale school, and she completed her schooling there. For some years she helped on the farm until she married Peter De Boer. Together they farmed near the old home place and raised four children. Dorothy was predeceased by Peter on May 31, 1978 and also by an infant daughter. She is survived by her children, Shirley (Bert M. Konynenbelt), Dennis (Linda Titsing), Lorraine (Marvin Vandervalk) and Barbara (Allan Nauta); 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; her sister Jennie DeBoer of Kelowna, B.C.; and by two of Peter’s siblings, Jennie Emmelkamp of the Blue Sky Lodge and John DeBoer of Red Deer. Dorothy and Peter retired from farming to Fort Macleod in 1966. There Dorothy enjoyed keeping up their beautiful yard. They had both been driving school bus for several years already, and they kept doing that for a few more years. Dorothy began painting pictures and was a member of the Fort Macleod Art Club. Many antiques display her talent and bear her signature. She donated numerous painted items to Immanuel Christian School sales and other charities. Her art has gone to many homes of her family, friends and others throughout the world. Dorothy was a faithful, active member of Granum Christian Reformed Church and its Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the Seniors’ Welcome Mat in Fort Macleod and went on many travel tours with them. In 2003 Dorothy moved to the Blue Sky Lodge in Lethbridge. She was thankful to be able to maintain her independence to the very end with the help of the caring staff of the lodge. Friends met with the family at Eden’s Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, 2006, at 7 p.m. A family graveside service was held at the Granum Church Cemetery on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Granum Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 2 p.m. with Rev.
