Parks, Stan

Stan Parks passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at the age of 81 years. He was born March 3, 1925 in Brock, Sask. to William and Elizabeth Parks. Stan joined the Navy in 1942 as a wireless operator and served in the Second World War. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Rycroft, Alta. and worked for the Northern Alberta Railways. In November 1948 he married Alice Yanyshyn. They had four children: Carol, Gary, Randy and Bonnie. In 1962 he resigned from the railways and moved to Grande Prairie, Alta. to work for the Daily Herald Tribune. It was with the newspaper firm that he found his way to Peace River, Alta. as editor and publisher of the Record Gazette. After spending three years at the Record Gazette in Peace River, Stan joined the ranks of broadcasters at CKYL Radio where he remained until his retirement in 1988. In 1997, Stan and Alice relocated to Fort Macleod. Even though he was retired, Stan remained very active within the community. In addition to spending the majority of his time golfing and travelling to visit with his children and grandchildren, he was an active member of the Fort Macleod Welcome Mat, Fort Macleod Masons and Welcome Mat Singers. Other past involvements of Stan’s included: Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Alberta Free Masons, Past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star, Past President and Executive Officer of Royal Canadian Legion, a 30-year member of Peace Players Drama Club, Honorary Member of the Peace Curling Association and Honorary Life Member of the Lakeside Golf and Country Club in Eaglesham, Alta. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice; his daughters Carol (Rick) Babkirk, Bonnie (Ray) Watmough; his son Randy and daughter-in-law Bev; his 11 grandchildren, Denise, Sybil, Tyrel, Raulley, Allana, Desmond, Megan, Mindy, Heather, Erin and Adam; and his precious great grandchildren, Mckenna, Ainsley, Dakota, Leirin and Nolan. Stan was predeceased by his son Gary in 2000. A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Eden’s Funeral Home. Family and friends paid their respects after the service at the United Church Hall.
