Shoemaker, Frederick James

It is with tremendous sorrow and heartache that we announce the passing of Frederick James Shoemaker, who passed away at the Kelowna General Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at the age of 60 years. The eldest child of parents Otto and Evelyn Shoemaker, he was born in Humboldt, Sask. on June 14, 1945. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife Helen; daughters Tammy (Rick) Paiha of Fort Macleod and Anna (Greg) Thompson of Calahoo, Alta.; grandchildren Richelle, Darien, Rylie, Janelle and Jaden; his mother Evelyn Shoemaker; his special ‘grandpet’ Sarge; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his father Frederick Otto; his sister Janet-Ann; and his beloved dog Snoopy. A gentle, sincere man with a contagious laughter, Jim was an easy person to be with. Never one to speak ill of another or make a hasty decision, Jim could also be very diplomatic, having the innate ability to know that sometimes silence was the best answer. Appreciating the importance of family, and inspired by his parents’ loving relationship, Jim and Helen exchanged wedding vows on Nov. 17, 1967, a union blessed with two beautiful daughters. A wonderful husband and father, JimĀ¹s family was kept first and foremost in his life as he maintained a balance between work and family time. Whether it was time spent story-telling in front of a crackling fire, casting a fishing line into the water’s edge, or enjoying each other’s company at the dinner table, Jim’s grandchildren will always remember the special times with their ‘Grandpa Shoe.’ Although taken from us too soon, Jim accomplished many things during his life that he could be especially proud of: moving his family to Elkford where they enjoyed not only the beauty of their surroundings but the people they loved and considered friends, and of course the Shoemaker home, where doors were always open to greet visitors, but most importantly, the amazing legacy of love that he has left for his wife, his children and his grandchildren to treasure forever. A funeral serivce celebrating Jim’s life was held at the Elkford Recreation Centre on Saturday, Feb. 11 with Rev. Eva Stanley officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Thompson, Rick Paiha, Richelle Paiha, Darien Paiha, Rylie Thompson, Janelle Thompson and Jaden Thompson. Pallbearers were Joe Halerewich, Troy Halerewich, Cameron Schaan, Craig Shoemaker, Bert Sword, Jim Carson, Rob Gair and Michael Debogorski. Cremation followed the service.
