Vos, Gerhardus (Gerhard) Jakob

Allyn The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. At His appointed time, God called to Himself, Gerhardus (Gerhard) Jakob Vos on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006.
Gerhard was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Roodeschool, Groningen, The Netherlands. After serving with the Dutch Army in Indonesia, Gerhard immigrated to Canada in 1951 and on Nov. 26, 1953, he married Hilda Poelman of Granum.
Along with farming, Gerhard was active in the Granum Home and School and drove school bus for many years. He was an active, dedicated member of the Granum Christian Reformed Church since 1951.
Gerhard was predeceased by his beloved wife Hilda; his youngest son Arnold; and by his granddaughter Christina Vos.
He is survived by his children, Georgina (Don) Vos of Granum, Clarence (Myra) Vos of Vancouver, B.C., Jim (Marianne) Vos of Granum and Patty (Allyn) Vandervalk of Granum.
Gerhard leaves behind his grandchildren, Robin (Shi-Anne, Kayla) Tompkins, Nathaniel, Jacqueline and Lindsay Vos; Stacey, Emily, Colin and Andrea Vos and Justin, David, Lynae and Kevin Vandervalk.
He is also survived by his brother Martinus (Ada) Vos and sister Wopkelina Vos of Holland; many brothers in-law, sisters in-law, numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the Netherlands and other places.
Gerhard is remembered by the many friends and acquaintances he made throughout his life. We are thankful for his life of service and dedication to God, the church, his family and his community.
Funeral service was held at the Granum Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Zondervan officiating. Interment in the Granum Christian Reformed Cemetery.
