Chapman, Vern

Vern Chapman, beloved husband of the late Violet Chapman, passed away at his home in Fort Macleod on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at the age of 81 years. Vern is survived by his daughters Frances (Doug) Paskal of Fort Macleod and Myra (Art) Kochanski of Nanton; his son Marcus Chapman of Burlington; his grandchildren Sam and Ben Paskal and Amanda and Melanie Kochanski; numerous nieces, nephews and friends and by his little dog Mitzi. Vern was predeceased by his wife Violet (December 2007) and grandson Danny Paskal (July 1996).
Vern was born on April 25, 1927 to Jim and Isabel Chapman in Three Hills, Alta. He spent his childhood on a farm near Rocky Mountain House. They then moved to the coal mines west of Rocky and at Canmore. After the mines, Vern drove transport truck between Calgary and Edmonton. He and his family moved to the Yukon in 1960 and Vern worked as a mechanic for Northwestel until he retired in 1988. Most of his retirement years were spent in Fort Macleod, though he never lost his love for the Yukon..
Vern enjoyed camping and working on his vehicles. He was a quiet man but he enjoyed telling his terrific stories about all the adventures in his past.
Funeral service was held at Eden’s Funeral Home, Fort Macleod on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eras Van Zyl officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery.
