Orr, Peter Koole

Peter Koole Orr, beloved husband of Judy Orr of Fort Macleod, passed away suddenly due to complications of his illness at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at the age of 56 years. Peter was born in Fort Macleod on Feb. 25, 1951. His family moved to Edmonton where he attended school. After graduation, he served a mission for his church. Upon his return, he married his soul mate and best friend, Judy, on Oct. 15, 1971. Thus began a family, whom Peter never stopped loving and always wanted all around him.
Peter and Judy moved to Orton, near Fort Macleod, in 1973, where Peter began a life-long love of farming, including tractor driving and tinkering and tree planting.
Peter attended the University of Lethbridge in 1980 and received his degree in education. He taught on the Blood Reserve for 10 years, and then ran a private school, Little Pony, in Fort Macleod for eight years. He retired in 2001 to build a new home with Judy and plant more trees. Peter had many passions, most notably music. He was a band member until late, singing and playing lead guitar, and also all through his life wrote and composed his own country rock songs. He was a devoted choir leader for many years in his church.
Peter was a runner, and a hiker. He loved to go to Banff with Judy and be out and about in the mountains. He enjoyed the valley parks in Lethbridge and ran the trails in all temperatures. Peter was always active, ready to help anyone, always moving, and always wanting a Slurpee after a good day’s work.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Judy; his children Danin (Curtis) Brown of Fort Macleod, Shauna (Ron) Fournier of Fort Macleod, Mercedes (Gordon) Misik of Beauvallon, Alta. and Perry Orr of Fort Macleod; seven grandchildren, whom he fondly referred to as the “mice”; his brother Dennis (Morin) Orr; his sister Opal (Lowell) Court; his sister Gwen (Gary) Goth and his brother Walter (Brenda) Orr.
Peter was predeceased by his parents William Glen and May Orr. Funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fort Macleod on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Bishop Duane Foote officiating. Interment in the Orton Cemetery. Friends met the family in the Relief Society Room from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
