Groeneweg, Maria

It is with deep sadness that the family of Maria Groeneweg announces her passing on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at the age of 96.
Maria was born in Numansdorp, Netherlands on April 30, 1914. Maria married her husband Wouter in 1938 and emigrated with their three children Marie, Bas and Gerrit to Monarch in 1948. Following the birth of Ed and Audrey the family moved to Fort Macleod in 1954 where Maria took joy in raising and supporting her family.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Wouter in 1991.
In addition to her children, Marie (Cyril), Bas (Verena), Gerrit (Deborah), Ed (Joanne), and Audrey, Maria is survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria is also survived by her brother Arie de Ruiter and her sister-in-law Jaantje Groeneweg and numerous related family members in Holland.
Maria was known for her baking and fresh home-made bread. She was an active member of the church carrying the spirit of her beliefs with her throughout her life.
A visitation will be held at Eden’s Funeral Home at 2424 Fifth Ave. Fort Macleod on Wednesday, Aug. 18 between 7-9 p.m.
Interment will be at the Nobleford-Monarch Cemetery on Thursday Aug. 19 at 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow at the Granum Christian Reformed Church at 2 p.m.
