Hatton, Alex Leonard

Alex Leonard (Len) Hatton, aged 80 years of Fort Macleod, passed away peacefully Friday, March 19, 2010, beloved husband of Marjorie, dear father and father-in-law of Wanda (Ken) Hutton, Claire Hatton, Lynette (Gary) Boyce and Brent (Susan) Hatton.
Len is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Judd and Grayson McNab, Emily (Jordan) Boutland, Brianne and Blakeley Boyce. Born and educated in Fort Macleod, Len owned and operated Hatton’s Welding and Giant Hand Manufacturing. He served as fire chief of the Fort Macleod Volunteer Fire Department for more than three decades. Over the years, he was an active member of the Rotary Club and on the board of the United Church, Fort Museum, Fort Macleod Golf Club and Fort Macleod Curling Club.
Len was presented with the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award by Premier Ralph Klein in 1993.
Len adored camping, fishing and boating with his family and friends. Len was a keen competitor and relished playing hockey, golf and curling. He enjoyed a life filled with laughter and love in the company of family and friends.
Len is also survived by two sisters, Olive Kennedy and Kay Kennedy, a sister-in-law Ronalda (Bill) Greenway and brother-in-law Robert (Lynn) Hahn, Jack Harris numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Len was predeceased by his parents Emily and Walter Hatton, brother Albert and his wife Lil Hatton and sister Ethel Harris.
Funeral services were held at Trinity United Church, Fort Macleod on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Eras Van Zyl officiating. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod.
