Housenga, Pietje

Pietje Housenga was born in Lethbridge on Nov. 9, 1915 to Hugo and Petronella Hooft, and passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010.
She grew up and attended school near Monarch. After completion of school she went to work for Lucy and Jake De Vries, where she met her future husband, John Housenga.
They were married on Nov. 23, 1937 in Lethbridge. They farmed near Picture Butte where they raised their four children; Joan, Lloyd, Carolyn and Glen.
In 1961 they moved to Fort Macleod where they farmed south of town until 1998 when they moved in to town.
Pietje was predeceased by John in 1999, granddaughter Sherralyn in 1979, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Pietje is survived by her four children, Joan (Bob) Bancroft, Lloyd (Glady) Housenga, Carolyn (Dave) Weir and Glen (Linda) Housenga; sister Nellie Johansen; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Trinity United Church, 220 20th St., Fort Macleod, with Rev. Eras Van Zyl officiating.
Interment to follow in Union Cemetery.
