Smith Young Stevens, Elizabeth

Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Young Stevens, born Dec. 21, 1924, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010, at the age of 85 years surrounded by her loving family.
Betty is survived by her husband Garnet Stevens of Lethbridge; three children, Lloyd (Marilynn) Young of California, Wendy (Rod) Luther of Fort Macleod and Scott ( Kelly) Young of Hill Spring and two step children, Ramona Stirling of Calgary and Laurie Stevens of Warner; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Betty is also survived by three siblings, Norma Olsen of Utah, Frank (Hazel) Smith of Cardston and Rose Marie Forsyth of Raymond. Betty was predeceased by her first husband Raymond Young (1981) and son Barton Young (1968), as well as two brothers and four sisters. Betty was born and raised in Mountain View. She married Raymond Young in 1942, and they lived in Chilliwack, B.C. for a short while during the war. Betty and Raymond returned to Hill Spring, where they lived and raised their four children Lloyd, Barton, Wendy and Scott. Betty helped with the family business, Hill Spring Motors, and the farm, also driving school bus for a number of years.
After Raymond passed away and her family had grown, Betty moved to Fort Macleod and eventually married Garnet Stevens. Garnet and Betty had quite a social life playing bridge, travelling, camping with the Good Sam’s. They enjoyed their many friends and family.
Betty loved gardening, cooking and baking, and entertaining in her beautiful home. She was also involved in all of her children and grandchildren’s lives and enjoyed each of them and encouraged them in all of their endeavors.
In recent years Betty and Garnet moved into The View in Lethbridge and took pleasure in Gracious Living.
We will all miss her immensely.
A graveside interment and celebration of her life was held at Hill Spring on Friday, April 30, 2010.
