Stevens, Laurie

Laurie Robert Stevens passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.
Laurie was born in The Pas, Manitoba on Jan. 5, 1961. In 1966 the family moved to Lomond, where he started school. In 1967 the family moved to Fort Macleod.
Because of his love for motors Laurie graduated from Willow Creek Composite high school in Claresholm where he could take the automotive class. He received his heavy duty mechanic certificate from SAIT when he completed his apprenticeship with Warner County. Laurie later received his automotive certificate. In 1986, he opened Laurie’s Automotive Shop in Warner where he had many loyal customers whom he respected and appreciated.
Laurie never tired of mechanics and always wanted “his head under the hood.” He successfully built stock cars for about 12 years and loved to “fine tune” them. He made many friends in the race car circuit and his car won Bridge County Raceway five consecutive years and the Canadian National Championship in his division in 2006 and 2007.
Laurie also loved curling and looked forward to the fellowship with his friends.
Laurie was a loyal friend who was always prepared to give his time to help others whether family or friends. He had a very quiet unassuming way and could always spend time to visit with all ages.
Laurie is sadly missed by his loving companion Shirley-Don Carr; mother Roberta (Harvey) Dersch; father Garnet Stevens; sister Ramona Stirling and her two sons, Neil and Ewan.
Laurie also leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins mostly from Manitoba, to mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his grandparents.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Warner Evangelical Missionary Church, Warner, with Pastor Brian Magee, officiating. Interment follows in the Warner Cemetery.
Donations in Laurie’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, T1J 4K7, or to the Warner Fire Department, 200 County Road, Warner, T0K 2L0.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Martin Bros. Funeral Chapels, Lethbridge. Phone 1-800-382-2901.
