Parade declared ‘one of the best ever’

Members of the Calgary Stampede Show Band's horn section march on Main Street, heralding the arrival of Santa Claus

Thousands of people bundled up for the 30th annual Santa Claus Parade

Fort Macleod celebrated 30 years of tradition on Saturday with what many called the best-ever Santa Claus Parade.
One hundred and 25 entries paraded down Main Street on a beautiful day enjoyed by thousands of people. Last year the parade had 80 entries.
“Feedback for the parade was nothing but positive, in fact many people stated it was the best ever,” parade co-ordinator Sue Risser said. “I honestly think the spirit of the people is what made the parade so amazing. I think Fort Macleod and the surrounding communities came out with a certain energy because it was the 30th year. It is a milestone , I’m sure nobody wanted to miss.”
Risser said the support of volunteers and corporate sponsors helped make the parade such a hit.
“It’s mind boggling really,” Risser said. “When you look at all of the volunteers who make the parade happen it’s amazing.”
