The family of Doris Rosling is sad to announce her passing on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, just a few weeks short of her 96th birthday.
Doris left behind a legacy of love and friendship from a life well lived. She was kind and empathetic to all, but showed no mercy playing crib, even with her grandchildren.
Doris was born in Calgary on Oct. 26, 1915, to Kenneth and Leita Craig. She grew up in a large family with two sisters and three brothers.
Doris moved from Calgary as a baby and spent her early childhood in Blairmore. When she turned 13, her family moved to Nanton, where she graduated from high school. Always an excellent student and excelling in math, Doris studied business at college in Winnipeg.
Doris eventually settled in Fort Macleod and in 1951 married Frank Rosling. They were blessed with two daughters.
Doris was a devoted member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and loved the congregational family. For close to 50 years, Doris was an active member of the church and enjoyed contributing to the choir, publishing the weekly bulletin, meeting with the Ladies Auxiliary and serving as an elder.
Doris was a great cook, avid gardener and wonderful mother and grandmother. She liked nothing better than getting together with her friends for coffee. As well, she enjoyed a good game of bridge and was active in local bridge clubs.
Outside of the home, Doris had an active work life. Most importantly, she enjoyed the camaraderie and relationships she built through this time, in particular with Charlton Transport and Fort Macleod Auction Market.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Joyce and Gayle, their husbands Don and Werner and five grandchildren, Andrew (Crystal), Ashley (Richie), Joel, Mackenzie and Michaela.
She will also be missed by her sister Barbara and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Frank and by brothers Doug, Jack and Rob and her sister Ruth.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod, with Diaconal Minister Kathie Anderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Fort Macleod Handibus Association, P.O. Box 881, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0.
