Van Waardhuizen, Harriet (née Ouwerkerk)

Mrs. Harriet Van Waardhuizen (née Ouwerkerk) passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the age of 73 years.
Harriet will be sincerely missed by her husband, Bill; her two daughters and 14 grandchildren: Joan (Tom) Sillito (Raine, Ryan, Tierney, Tel, Tyese, and River) of Fort Macleod, and Julie (Vern) Lybbert (Dallin, Tamara, Jenna, Cody, Amanda, Laura, Justin, and Olivia) of Lethbridge.
Harriet is also survived by brothers Bill (Nell) Ouwerkerk of Fort Macleod, Tony (Korrie) Ouwerkerk of Lethbridge, and Cor Ouwerkerk of Lethbridge; sisters Ann Vanee of Lethbridge, Irene (Wayne) Hollander of Pincher Creek, Maria Still of Fort Saskatchewan and Alice Ouwerkerk of Lethbridge; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Harriet was predeceased by a brother Antonie, who died as a small baby, and by brother-in-law Jo Vanee. 
Hendrika Adriana Ouwerkerk was born in the Netherlands on March 4, 1938 to Bastiaan and Johanna Ouwerkerk. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1951 and settled in southern Alberta.
In July 1960 Harriet married her sweetheart Bill Van Waardhuizen.
Harriet worked for many years as a bookkeeper and accountant. Among others, she worked for Pyramid Motors in Lethbridge, Vanee Livestock in Fort Macleod, Fort Macleod Feed Mill, Scougall RV Center, and just over 33 years at Scougall Motors in Fort Macleod. Harriet loved her work and was very good at it.
Harriet also especially enjoyed reading, gardening, and singing which she did beautifully. She lived all of her married life in and around Fort Macleod.
A private family interment will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.  A memorial open house will be held the same day at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 2517 Third Ave. in Fort Macleod from 1-4 p.m.
