Jayden Goodstriker of the F.P. Walshe Flyers goes up for a shot Saturday against Mountain View Grizzlies.

It was a Winter Classic showdown Saturday evening as Magrath edged host F.P. Walshe Flyers 46-42 to win the Grade 8 girls’ basketball tournament.
Magrath finished with a 4-0 record in the five-team round-robin tournament at F.P. Walshe school.
The loss dropped the Flyers record to 2-2 and put the host team in a tie with Foremost and Mountain View, followed by R.I. Baker at 0-4.
The Flyers are Sam Bassett, Justys Conrad, Cheyenne Hofer, Nicole Roy, Nicole Quinlan, Carleigh Grier-Stewart, Carlin Van Driesten, Hannah Burbank, Marina Parvanova and Jayden Goodstriker.
Dan Burbank is head coach.
Foremost 46 Flyers 38
The Flyers got off to a slow start Friday afternoon as they dropped a 46-38 decision to Foremost Forettes.
Nicole Quinlan led the Flyers with nine points, Sam Bassett had eight and Justys Conrad had six. Cheyenne Hofer and Carlin Van Driesten each had four.
Flyers 49 R.I. Baker 29
The Flyers finished the opening day of the tournament with a 1-1 record thanks to a 49-29 win over R.I. Baker.
The Flyers held a slim 20-18 halftime lead but then shut down R.I. Baker’s scorers in the second half while pouring in 29 points themselves.

Justys Conrad and Carlin Van Driesten of the F.P. Walshe Flyers battle Mountain View Grizzlies for a rebound.

Jayden Goodstriker led all scorers with 12 points for the Flyers, Justys Conrad had nine and Sam Bassett had eight.
Nicole Quinlan had seven and Cheyenne Hofer had four for the Flyers.
Flyers 50 Grizzlies 39
On Saturday afternoon the Flyers rolled up a 34-14 halftime lead on their way to a 50-39 win over Mountain View Grizzlies.
Jayden Goodstriker was again top scorer with a dozen points and Sam Bassett poured in 11.
Justys Conrad scored seven for the Flyers, Nicole Quinlan scored six, Cheyenne Hofer, Carleigh Grier-Stewart and Hannah Burbank each had four and Carlin Van Driesten had two.
Magrath 46 Flyers 42
The Flyers had a chance Saturday night to claim the Winter Classic title.
A victory would have given the Flyers a 3-1 record, tying them with Magrath, but F.P. Walshe would have won the tiebreaker.
Magrath had other ideas, though, and after opening an 18-15 halftime lead held off the Flyers on their way to a 46-42 win.

Cheyenne Hofer of the F.P. Walshe Flyers hauls down a rebound against Mountain View Grizzlies.

Sam Bassett scored 15 points in a losing cause and Jayden Goodstriker had 11.
Justys Conrad scored five points for the Flyers, Nicole Quinlan, Carlin Van Driesten, Cheyenne Hofer and Carleigh Grier-Stewart each had two and Marina Parvanova had one.
