Wiedwald, Rolf Irwin

Sadly, but peacefully, Rolf Irwin Wiedwald passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the age of 75 years after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Rolf was an amazing man who will forever be remembered as very loving, kind, thoughtful and hard-working. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandpa and great grandpa with a great sense of humour. He was always happy. Anyone who knew Rolf considered him a friend.
Rolf was born Aug. 1, 1936 in Hanna and grew up in Delia. Rolf moved to Calgary and began working for Canadian Western Natural Gas in 1968. He then moved to Fort Macleod, which he has called home since 1974.
After retiring in 1994 Rolf spent a great deal of time volunteering and doing things for others. Rolf was always there for anybody who needed a helping hand.
Rolf loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids, camping, playing cards, wood-working, knitting and riding his Honda scooter.
Rolf will be lovingly remembered by his family to whom he devoted his life: his loving wife Merna; daughters Deb (Mike) Dever, Karen (Darin) Herle, Shelley Steele and Tania (Mike) Baldwin; stepchildren Cindy (Ken) Thompson, Barry Campbell, Laurie (Ron) Conner, Mike (Dawn) Campbell, Sheryl (Gareth) Philip and David White.
Rolf also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Love you forever, Grandpa!
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Community Support Beds in Fort Macleod, the Fort Macleod Handibus Society, or the United Church Memorial Fund.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Trinity United Church.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at the Fort Macleod Community Support Beds for their support and kindness — they were truly wonderful; Dr. Beekman and staff; and Dr. Ireland along with the palliative care team for their ongoing support and help.
