Allied Arts sets new date for children’s festival

Fort Macleod childrens art festival

Students Payton Van Driesten, Genna Kunz and Ryan Burrows won the Fort Macleod Children's Art Festival poster contest sponsored by Allied Arts. Each child's design has been copied and posters will be displayed around town. Each child also wins art class from Allied Arts next summer.

There will be less joy in Fort Macleod than usual this year on the first Saturday in May.
The annual Children’s Arts Festival will not go ahead as scheduled on Saturday, May 5.
Renovations to the Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre have prompted Allied Arts to reschedule the festival to Saturday, June 9.
Allied Arts executive director Carmen Drapeau said the group did not entertain the idea of cancelling the event when it learned the arena is not available.
“The event is important for the kids in the community,” Drapeau said. “Moving it to June, it is going to work out really well.”
The $561,000 renovation of the Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre lobby includes removal of flooring material that contains asbestos.
Town council was advised to have groups planning to use the arena either cancel or find another venue to limit any health risk.
The renovation project includes new washrooms, handicap access and a new concession area to serve both the hockey and curling arenas.
