Cox, Viola (nee Quinton)

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, Viola Cox (nee Quinton) passed peacefully at the Fort Macleod Community Care Facility.
Viola Cox (nee Quinton) was born in Cardston on June 26, 1917. Vi, as she was known, was the youngest of six children, She grew up on a farm in the Glenwood area and later she attended Normal School in Calgary to become a teacher. Her first teaching position was in the Spring Point area west of Fort Macleod.
On Dec. 30, 1940 she married William (Bill) Martin Cox and they ranched in the Spring Point district. Bill and Vi were blessed with three children, Robert Dennis, Corine Wilma and Rita Diane.
She raised her family and taught school during various periods over the years and Vi and Bill were part of a vibrant community and made many good life-long friends. They retired to Fort Macleod and Vi continued teaching for a few years until her own retirement.
Vi enjoyed being part of many organizations, playing cards, traveling, and enjoying time with friends. Bill passed away in 1984 and has been greatly missed by Vi and her family.
In 1997 she moved to the Fort Macleod Pioneer Lodge where she became active on the residents’ council. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren Cathy and Keith Cox, Rhonda and Jolene DeCew, Anna, Nick and Jennifer Welsch and was always available to either lend a helping hand or offer sound advice. She felt especially fortunate to know her great grandchildren Lara and Lowen Dravinskis, Morgan Ewaskiw, Jeffery, Timothy and Joseph Cox, and Jeffery and Kaiden Lewis.
Vi will be remembered for her undaunting strength, wisdom and compassion for family and friends.
A celebration of her life was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod. Interment followed at Union Cemetery.
