Junior high boys claim zone volleyball banner

F.P. Walshe Flyers battled hard all day Friday to win the junior high boys’ zone volleyball championship.
The Flyers beat tournament host Seven Persons Spartans in their sixth match of the day to claim the zone championship.
The Flyers opened the tournament against Taber St. Mary’s Storm, sweeping both sets 25-18 and 25-13.
In their next match the Flyers met the host Spartans for the first time that day, and it proved a hard-fought battle.
The Spartans put the bite on the Flyers in the first set 25-21. The Flyers fought back to win the second set 26-24.
The Flyers suffered a setback in their next match as they got swept 25-23 and 25-15 by Magrath.
The Flyers closed out the round-robin with a 25-17, 25-8 sweep of Taber Christian school.
Host Seven Persons placed first in the round-robin with a 7-1 record, followed by Magrath at 6-2, F.P. Walshe at 5-3, Taber Christian at 2-6 and Taber St. Mary’s at 1-7.
Their third-place finish put the Flyers into the semifinals against Magrath, and F.P. Walshe won 25-18 and 25-20.
The Flyers won the first set 25-15 and then clinched the championship with a 25-20 decision in the second set.
The Flyers are Zach D’Eon, Mac Donahue, Michael McTighe, Devon Cervo, Rylan Clarke, Shody Perry, Ty Odney, Oakley Bond and Tyler Trotter.
Coaches are Justin Zoeteman and Randy Bohnet.
