Spring Breakout needs help shifting into gear

Organizers need volunteers to help put on the 2012 Spring Breakout, which is a show of vintage and custom automobiles on Main Street.

Volunteers are needed to drive a car show in Fort Macleod.
The Spring Breakout is set for Saturday, April 21 but more help is needed to shift the show ‘n’ shine into gear.
“It’s a community event, and it’s a worthwhile community event,” Ted Buzunis said.
Buzunis is spearheading the 2012 Spring Breakout, which is a display of vintage and custom vehicles on Fort Macleod’s historic Main Street.
There is no single organization in charge of Spring Breakout, so Buzunis is putting out the call for some willing workers.
“We just need some more bodies,” Buzunis said. “We need people to help with parking, we need people to help with registration, we just need more people.”
The Fort Macleod Playground Committee headed by Jill Burrows has already come forward to volunteer to organize the dance at the community hall following Spring Breakout.
Buzunis will take charge of catering the banquet.
Buzunis would like to see other Fort Macleod individuals and groups get involved in Spring Breakout.
“We want it to be a real community event,” Buzunis said.
In its heyday Spring Breakout had as many as 300 vintage and custom vehicles from across southwestern Alberta lined up from the West end of Main Street to Fourth Avenue.
Organizers want to restore the event to its prominence.
“We’re already advertising,” Buzunis said, noting Spring Breakout posters will be handed out at the Lethbridge Swap Meet.
Spring Breakout will also do some cross-promotion with the Fort Macleod Trade Fair, which is the same weekend in April.
T-shirts have already been prepared for sale at Spring Breakout.
Now all that is needed is some manpower to really get Spring Breakout’s motor running.
“Anybody and everybody who wants to help, we’ll find something for them to do,” Buzunis said.
Anyone interested in helping with Spring Breakout should call Ted Buzunis at 403-553-308-2020.
