Minnie Veenland

Wilhelmina (Minnie) Elizabeth Veenland of Granum, beloved wife of Peter Veenland, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Claresholm General Hospital at the age of 88 years.
Minnie was born on the family farm east of Granum on July 21, 1923. She married Peter Veenland on July 3, 1947.
Minnie was a long-time resident of Granum. She was the organist for 50 years at the Jumbo Valley Presbyterian Church, and was also a long-time member of the church’s Ladies’ Aid.
Minnie also spent several years serving hot lunches for the Granum schools. She was known by many students as the “Soup Lady.”
Minnie will be missed by her loving husband Peter of 64 years; son Bryce; daughters, Brenda (Menzo) and Cathy (Rod); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Minnie was predeceased by her parents, George and Alice Lantinga; her siblings, Emmeline Mackintosh, Rita Plewes, Sebo Lantinga, George Lantinga and Margaret Lantinga; and her son, Lorne Veenland.
A funeral service was held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (1818 Fifth Ave. S., Lethbridge) on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Hugh Jack, officiating.
