The David team took the direct route to the championship of the Fort Macleod Coed Slowpitch League playoff tournament.
The David team won four straight games Saturday to clinch the title, beating the Wolstenholme crew in the final game at Volunteer Park.
When the regular season ended there was a three-way tie for first place between the David, Vanee and Roelofsen teams, followed by Wolstenholme, Zoeteman and Smith.
Wolstenholme opened the tournament on Friday night by defeating Zoeteman, while David downed Smith.
At 8 a.m. Saturday Wolstenholme continued their winning ways by knocking off Vanee, while David beat Roelofsen.
In the next game on the A side, David beat Wolstenholme to advance to the tournament final.
Meanwhile on the B side, Smith beat Vanee and Zoeteman beat Roelofsen.
In the next round on the B side, Zoeteman beat Smith and Roelofsen beat Vanee.
The slowpitch marathon continued at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Roelofsen defeating Zoeteman.
That set up a showdown to decide who would meet David in the final. In that playoff, Wolstenholme beat Roelofsen.
In the final, the David team prevailed 23-13 in five innings to win the championship.
Conrad Van Hierden ran the tournament concession and realized a $1,000 profit for the A-T Children’s Project.
