Gazette earns provincial awards in 2013

The Macleod Gazette earned six awards in a recent provincial newspaper competition.
The Gazette won four general excellence and two writing awards in the 2012 Better Newspapers Competition sponsored by the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association.
The Gazette placed second as best overall newspaper in its circulation category, earning 819.5 points out of a possible 1,000.
The Hinton Voice placed first with 827 points, and High River South Peace News was third with 777.6.
The Gazette placed first for best sports pages and received second-place awards for best front page and best editorial page.
Editor and publisher Frank McTighe received a second-place award for best news story for his coverage of the Redford government’s decision to cancel the $122-million Alberta Public Security and Law Enforcement Training Centre.
McTighe also received a third-place award for excellence in education writing for his feature story about the eagle feather ceremony for First Nations Grade 12 grads at F.P. Walshe school.
