MD to get estimate for Blunden Hall asbestos removal

The MD of Willow Creek will seek an estimated cost for the removal of asbestos from Blunden Hall in Granum before making a decision on what to do with the building.
At its May 22 meeting council reviewed a hazardous materials survey presented by chief administrative officer Cynthia Vizzutti.
Vizzutti explained there is asbestos in the wall tiles, floor, washrooms, and boiler room.
Demolition of the hall had started, and had it continued the contractor would have been in violation of provincial guidelines.
“There’s a significant amount,” Vizzutti said of the asbestos.
Vizzutti estimated the cost of removal could be between $20,000 and $50,000, and the MD of Willow Creek should not incur that cost.
However, it was agreed to get actual estimates from contractors who remove asbestos before making any sort of decision on what to do next.
