dora story

Dora Story, beloved wife of Thomas Story (deceased) passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the age of 98.
Dora was born in Lennard, Man. and was the third oldest of 10 children. Dora acquired a remarkable work ethic as she and her siblings helped their parents on the family farm. She worked hard all her life and was a very independent lady who never seemed to slow down.
After finishing school Dora moved to Brandon, Man. and worked as a waitress. There she met the love of her life, Thomas Story.
Dora and Tom were married in Brandon on Nov. 11, 1940 just prior to Tom being posted overseas with the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War.
After Tom returned from the war they moved to Fort Macleod in 1946 and purchased the Massey Harris dealership with money Dora saved from Tom’s war service. They quickly become active members of the community and made many close friends. Dora was involved with the Hospital Auxiliary, loved to curl and especially enjoyed playing bridge with her old friends.
At age 65 Dora took painting lessons and over the next 30 years produced hundreds of beautiful prairie and mountain scenes along with many florals that now hang proudly on walls all over North America. Dora was very humble but extremely proud of the close to 300 paintings she sold.
Dora was very active in Eastern Star and served as Past Worthy Matron along with serving as Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters.
Dora is best known for her beautiful smile and love of laughter.
Dora is survived by her son Alan and his wife Rita; daughter Sharon and husband John Parker; grandchildren Shauna and husband Russell Doig, Brett Schwindt and wife Mona, and Carey Schwindt, all of Calgary, and Thomas Story of Dubai, UAE; and four wonderful great grandchildren, Brittany, Logan, Lucy and Shelby, who also live in Calgary.
Dora is predeceased by her husband Thomas; father and mother Alexi and Agrapina Gaber; brothers Peter, Jim, John, Gerry and George; and sisters Mabel and Anne. Sisters Mary and Margaret still reside in Ontario.
Dora will be deeply missed not only by her family but also her many friends and acquaintances.
