Reach, Eileen Ruth

eileen reach

Eileen Ruth Reach, otherwise known as Neen or Granny, was born in Fort Macleod in 1936. She was the younger of two daughters born to William and Myrtle Brewster. She and her sister Eva were raised on the family farm south of Fort Macleod.
Eileen then went to Calgary to get her teaching degree and taught at the Waterton school just south of her family farm.
In 1955 Eileen married Robert (Bob) Reach, a handsome town boy who loved sports — curling, baseball and hockey.
They both enjoyed travelling, attending bonspiels and spending time with their loving friends.
Eileen was an active member with the Fort Macleod Curling Club, and the Order of The Eastern Star, loved golf and the outdoors. Her passion for politics lead her to many roles during provincial and federal elections as returning officer in Fort Macleod ridings.
They have two boys; Brian and Scot. Brian is married to Ronda (Ducharme) and they have three children, Randi (Jason) Perry and their daughters Madison and Jorja; Nicholas (Jade) Reach and their boys Jaxx and Jagger; and Ashley (Robin) Luther and their children Tess, Tristan, Nathan and Justice. Scot is married to Bev (Radke) and they have two boys Brenton (fiance Sarah) and Braydon.
Neen had a passion for gardening and started growing a few geraniums for family and close friends in a small greenhouse. This passion then lead to a larger greenhouse operation Neen’s Plants which served a number of very loyal customers in southern Alberta for 15 years.
Eileen and Bob loved to travel in their motorhome either with friends or toting their grandchildren.
After Bob’s passing Eileen continued with the farm for a couple of years, but due to health issues was forced to retire and move into an assisted living facility in Lethbridge where she lived for five years. Later she returned to Fort Macleod Extendicare allowing her to be closer to the family, friends and community that she loved. We would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at the Extendicare, for allowing her last couple of years to be filled with exemplary care, love and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at the Christ Church Anglican on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Pilar Gateman officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Neen’s memory to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, P.O. Box 2211, Lethbridge, T1J 4K7 or the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, No. 244, 708 11th Ave., S.W., Calgary, T2R 0E4.
