Szol, Irma

Irma Szol, born June 20, 1935, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Chinook Regional Hospital.
Irma was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Aleksy Szol.
Irma (Mom) will be lovingly remembered with cherished memories, by her pride and joy, her three children, Rita Moryski (Dennis), Gordon Szol and Kevin Szol (Karen); her grandchildren, Brandle Moryski (Leslie), Denita Sutherley, Mark Moryski, Ryan and Adam Szol, Kristin Wilhelm (Ryan) and Kayla Szol; and of course her great grandchildren, Candice and Brody Moryski, Sydney and Halley Westle, Gage Wilhelm and Jordan and Hayden Sutherley.
Irma is also survived by her siblings, Susan Burch, Ernest Wildeman (Frieda), Carl Wildeman (Phyllis), Ruth Dube, Paramananda, Elli Fischer and Siegfried Jabs (Hildegarde).
Irma was a vibrant member in the community of Fort Macleod where she resided since 1957. From school sports events, hockey, swimming competitions, curling bonspiels, helping to decorate the hospital float for parades and most of all, her dedication and involvement with the Lutheran Church providing snacks, instruction and activities in vacation bible school, sewing costumes for the Christmas pageants and teaching Sunday school as well as helping with confirmation classes. Her faith was strong and never ending.
Irma worked in the health care field providing nursing care in the old auxiliary hospital to her specialty — combined laboratory and x-ray technician, receiving the Queen’s Honour Award for her accomplishments of that field.
Irma’s gardens, both flower and vegetable, were her pastime and pleasure. She loved spending time seeding, weeding and relaxing in her yard. She was also very successful in caring for her apple and plum trees which provided fruit for family and friends.
Always remembered is Irma’s positive spirit and love of life. She lives on in our hearts. In Irma’s written words, “Please celebrate my life and do not mourn my death.”
As per Irma’s request, there will not be a funeral but a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Granum Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, Irma has requested that memorial donations be made to Granum Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 101, Granum, T0L 0Z0.
