van Sluys, Adrian (Andy)

Adrian (Andy) van Sluys of Fort Macleod, beloved husband of the late Frances van Sluys, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the age of 80 years.
Andy is survived by his sons Adrian (Bernetta) van Sluys and John van Sluys; grandchildren Bryce (Kelly), Marc (Christina), Eric and Ashleigh; and great grandchildren Cohen and Oliver.
Andy is also survived by his sisters Nelly, Jannie and Matty; brother Peter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides Andy’s loving wife Frances he was predeceased by his brother John van Sluys.
Andy was born in Vlissingen, NL on Feb. 22, 1935. Andy immigrated with his family to Coaldale in 1951 to find a better life in Canada.
Andy met Frances Kooistra and married May 27, 1960 and they had two sons, Adrian and John. Andy worked and lived in the Fort Macleod area where he finally retired from the Macleod Feed Mill.
Dad enjoyed working with his hands and especially loved to tend to his garden of flowers and vegetables.
Dad loved spending time with family, whether it was brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews or his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In the last months of his life Andy found a wonderful friend and companion in Ellie Gunderson. They spent great times together, meeting friends, exploring southern Alberta and reminiscing. Dad will be missed and remembered by many.
Condolences were held from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015, at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at the Netherlands Reformed Church, 2608 Seventh Ave., Fort Macleod, with Rev. P. Bazen officiating.
