W.A. Day school Grade 4 students Naomi Salmon and Samantha Gouchie created the winning entries in Fort Macleod Allied Arts Children’s Arts Festival poster contest.

Allied Arts has a great day of fun planned for Saturday, May 7.
Headlining the annual Children’s Festival is Mike Wood from Toronto.
“Mike Wood is a really funny guy,” Allied Arts president Lee Holfeld said. “You’ll love him. Your kids will love him.”
Wood has been a professional entertainer since 1994, and had a comedy act that paid the bills while he studied engineering at university.
Wood started as a street performer at outdoor festivals in Canada and created an outdoor stunt comedy show, later moving to indoor stages.
Wood’s signature move, the catapulted cabbage catch, has earned him shows across Canada and in 13 countries around the world.
Wood’s stage appearances include such shows as TED Talent Search and Watch This Space in London, England; Uptown Waterloo Comedy Festival in Waterloo, Ont.; Cape Town International Comedy Festival in South Africa; Winnipeg Fringe Festival; and Dawson City Music Festival.
Wood also performed at the Street Performance World Championship in Dublin, Ireland; Edmonton International Street Performers Festival; and the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The annual Children’s Arts Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre.
Admission is free for children and $2 for adults.
Holfeld said many of the festival’s usual favourites return this year.
There will be a bouncy castle, free popcorn, face-painting and arts and crafts.
Community groups such as Family and Community Support Services, Fort Macleod Early Childhood Coalition and Kids First Family Centre will attend.
Other participating groups include Fort Macleod Preschool, the Empress Theatre Society, Fort Macleod Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
New to the festival is Jesse Wilcox from Twisted Balloon Creationz.
