Fort Macleod Mustangs take commanding lead in Ranchland Hockey League semifinals

Fort Macleod Mustangs have a stranglehold on their Ranchland Hockey League semifinals series against Kainai Braves.
The Flyers won the first two games of the best-of-five 7-2 and 6-4 on home ice on the weekend.
The scene now shifts to Stand Off for the third game at 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 4.
The fourth game, if necessary, is 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Stand Off.
If needed, the fifth game would be played Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. at Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre.
Mustangs 7 Braves 2
Bryce Lamb and Cody Berube each scored two goals and set up three others Friday to lead the Mustangs to a 7-2 win over the visiting Braves.
The Mustangs took a 3-2 lead in the first period and stretched it to 5-2 with a pair of unanswered goals in the middle frame, with the second one coming on a powerplay.
Fort Macleod scored two more unanswered goals in the third period to wrap up the 7-2 win.
Ty Provost had a goal and two assists for Fort Macleod and Brady Matson and Tyce Gallamore also scored, with Austin Beck and Jadon Porterfield each picking up an assist.
Colton Wells had a goal and an assist for Kainai and Ian Creighton had a goal. Del Scalplock had two assists and Manny Yellowfly had one.
Danny Weasel Fat made 40 saves in the Kainai goal, while Cody Hall blocked 17 shots in the Fort Macleod net.
Mustangs 6 Braves 4
The Mustangs scored three goals in just over a minute Saturday to break open a tight game on their way to a 6-4 win.
The Mustangs opened a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game on goals by Kent Broere and Lamb, with Gallamore and Cole Matson assisting.
Kainai fought back, getting a goal from Scalplock, assisted by Jeremy Weasel Moccasin, mid way through the opening period and tying the game with 1:38 left on a powerplay goal by Yellowfly.
Kainai took a 3-2 lead 2:45 into the second period on a goal by Shawn Wells, assisted by Trey Twigg, and held it for the next 10 minutes.
The Mustangs started to turn the tide with a powerplay goal by Lamb, assisted by Cole Matson, at 13:33.
Just 10 seconds later Leo Lacourciere got his first goal of the series for Fort Macleod, assisted by Abe Jensen, to put the Mustangs in front 4-3.
Less than a minute later Lacourciere scored on a solo effort and Fort Macleod led 5-3.
A powerplay goal by Weasel Moccasin, assisted by Yellowfly, with 1:47 left in the second period cut Fort Macleod’s lead to one goal.
Fort Macleod restored its two-goal lead just over seven minutes into the third period on a powerplay marker from Porterfield, assisted by Lamb and Cole Matson.
Hall made 23 saves in the victory while Weasel Fat blocked 38 shots.
