Man charged in drug bust released on bail

A 38-year-old man charged in connection with a drug bust in Fort Macleod made a brief court appearance Wednesday.
Sherman T. Laboucan of Wabasca was in custody at Lethbridge Correctional Centre and appeared via closed circuit television.
Scott Hadford appeared as agent for Laboucan’s lawyer, Vincent Guinan, to have the matter adjourned to June 1 in Fort Macleod provincial court.
Crown prosecutor Clayton Giles agreed to Laboucan’s release on a $1,000 cash bond.
Release conditions require Laboucan to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Laboucan is prohibited from being in Fort Macleod except for court, and is to have no contact with his co-accused, Khawa Jany.
Five people were charged April 22 after Fort Macleod RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on 26th Street and Fourth Avenue.
Police seized 88 grams of powder cocaine, 65 grams of crack cocaine and seven grams of marijuana, which have a street value of about $15,000.
The RCMP also seized two rifles, a prohibited firearm, a machete, knife and $1,000 cash.
Laboucan is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon and breach of probation.
Kimberly Creighton, 56, and Wacy Creighton, 30, both of Fort Macleod, are charged with possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a dangerous weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
They are to appear in Fort Macleod provincial court on June 1.
Mekdela Kitaw, 21, of Calgary, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of probation.
Khawa Jany, 19, of Calgary, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
