Collar, Gertrude (Gertie)

Gertrude (Gertie) Collar, beloved wife of the late Mick Collar, passed away at the Fairmont Extendicare on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at the age of 93 years.
Gertie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Judy (Randy) Meroniuk, Dick (Dee) Collar, Sue (Doug) Fieger and Danny (Risé) Collar; grandchildren Stuart (Dana), Dana (Lee), Heather, Kathy (Aaron), Mike (Tanya), Adam (Ashley), Tyler (Noy), Jill (Adam), and Jackie (Sean); great grandchildren Brenden, Jamie, Jesse, Sarah, Alaina, Vienna, Tasha, Tysen, Ryan, Alex, Abby, Ben, Madison, Corbin, Amara, Austin, Abby and Emily.
Gertie is also survived by her brother Abe (Diane) Vandervelden.
Besides her loving husband Mick, Gertie was predeceased by her son Tommy and her brother Jack.
Gertie was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada with her mom in 1924. Her parents farmed south of Macleod for many years.
When she was 20, Gertie met Mick and they were married shortly after. Together they raised a family of five on the family farm near Hazelmere. In the early 1970s Gertie and Mick moved into Fort Macleod.
Gertie was a member of the Royal Purple and enjoyed volunteering at the Welcome Mat and Trinity United Church. Gertie took great pleasure in knitting and crocheting for family members.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, 220 20th St., Fort Macleod, on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at 2 p.m.
