Bergen, Henry

Henry Bergen, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.
Henry was a strong, hard-working man who did whatever it took to provide for his family. He was a farmer, a sawyer, a construction worker and a coal miner.
Henry lived in the Crowsnest Pass and area with his wife for many years, raising their family of eight. He and his wife retired to Drumheller in the early 1990s where they enjoyed family time camping and fishing and the occasional trip to Vegas.
They moved to Lethbridge in 2003 before realizing city life was not for them and headed down the road to Fort Macleod in 2005. Henry soon became a regular at the Welcome Mat playing crib and pool. He loved playing pool and did so until his legs would not hold him. Henry also played a mean game of crib, always looking for the elusive perfect hand.
Henry is survived by eight children, Robert (Diane) Bergen, Barb (Dave) Whitney, Cathy (Jim) Clarke, Doug (Karen) Bergen, David (Joyce) Bergen, Shirley (Tim) Lynnes, Rodney (Patti) Bergen and Marianne (Stuart) MacKay; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Liz Wright; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Henry was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Ada Bergen (Wright) in 2012, and his son Carey Bradford Bergen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel, 610 Fourth St. S., Lethbridge, with Rev. Eva Stanley officiating.
A private family graveside will be held in the Fort Macleod Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Fort Macleod Handibus Society, P.O. Box 881, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0.
Visit to send a private condolence.
