RCMP seek accident witnesses

RCMP want to talk to anyone who witnesses a car crashing into a house near Readymade on Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m. Thursday a grey Pontiac Vibe was heading eastbound on Highway 512 when it veered south from the highway into the ditch .

The car continued into some trees and into a house, which was occupied by a woman and her young children.

The car crashed into the house at a the northwest corner, which was a children’s bedroom, and became wedged. The north porch was also damaged.

The occupants of the house were in the south portion of the house and not injured.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 70s from the Coaldale area, was trapped and had to be extricated by members of the Coaldale Fire Department.

She was taken by ground ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge for treatment. She suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

The Vibe was wedged in the house for a number of hours awaiting an assessment of the structural integrity of the house. Late in the afternoon the car was removed and the building properly supported.
