Reach, Charles George (Charlie)

Charlie Reach passes away
passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the age of 86.
Charlie was predeceased by his dear wife Betty of 49 years, brother Bob, mother Marion and father Charles. He will be greatly missed by his only daughter Susan, only grandson Colten, two nephews Brian (Ronda) Reach and family and Scot (Bev) Reach and family and his best four-legged friend Carter.
Charlie took over a grocery business from his father, leaving his job at Burns and Company in Calgary to come home to run the business. He quickly became part of a larger family, Associated Grocers home of the independent. This business ran for over 100 years within the Reach family.
Charlie loved his touring motorbikes. He took many trips over the Logan pass, He joined the Goldwing Club, and later the Retreads, to eventually just weekly Sunday breakfasts with the motorcycle group.
Charlie’s most loved hobby were his trains. He would wait for hours to get the perfect picture of a train coming around the bend, or over a bridge. He even loved the decorative graffiti. Charlie constructed his own train shop, which included engines with steam and sound effects, miniature houses and people. He enjoyed many trips to the Crowsnest Pass to gather stones to create stone walls for more realistic effects.
Aside from running Reach and Company Charlie was a Mason, following his father. He was recognized in 2007 and received a 50-year certificate and medal. He was also an active Legion member.
Charlie was a true friend to anyone who met him, a generous, caring, hardworking man, supporting local businesses, donating to charitable organizations. He will be so dearly missed. This man truly made a difference.
Charlie’s family sincerely wants to thank all the staff with Home Care, Extendicare and Dr. Beekman. So many people showed so much compassion. Thank you.
Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Friend, you’re in our hearts and memories, never forgotten.
A come and go reception celebrating Charlie’s life will be held between 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. 2018, at Trinity United Church Hall, 220 20th St., Fort Macleod. We welcome all dear friends of Charlie’s.
