Skene, Eva

Eva Skene of Fort Macleod beloved wife of Ted Skene passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at the age of 90 years.
Besides her loving husband Ted, Eva is survived by her two daughters, Cindy (Barry) Welsh and Lynda (Werner) Skene; and grandchildren Rob Welsh, Christy (BJ) Boot and Wes (Zoe) Skene; great grandchildren Brady, Jordy, Kody Welsh, Josh, Ali, Tanner, Jaxson, Nikki, Nathan Boot, Addison and Bette Skene; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Eva was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Myrtle Brewster; her sister Eileen Reach; her two dear sons, Rick and Greg Skene; her nephew Steve; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Eva was born in Fort Macleod on Aug. 1, 1928. She grew up on the family farm south of Macleod with her parents Bill and Myrtle Brewster and her younger sister Eileen.
Eva’s love of horses began early and for years she rode her horse to and from the Hazelmere country school. In 1947 Eva was the lady in waiting to the Calgary Stampede Queen.
In 1951 she married her best friend Ted Skene, who would be the love of her life for 67 years. They eventually settled on a farm where they raised their four children Lynda, Cindy, Rick and Greg.
Eva loved her family, the farm, her garden, and her horses. Eva and Ted lost their beloved sons Rick and Greg in a tragic accident in 1979. Eva’s true strength shone through the terrible grief and she focused all her love on her remaining family.
When they moved to their retirement acreage in Fort Macleod Eva took her love of gardening with her. She convinced Ted to transplant over 100 trees onto their new property. Many a golfer has enjoyed their beautiful yard.
Eva continued to live in their home until her passing. Her kindness and beautiful smile will be remembered and deeply missed by her large family and many friends and neighbours.
A memorial service was on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Christ Church Anglican, Fort Macleod, with Rev. Joanne Parnham officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Eva’s memory to the Fort Macleod Handibus Society, P.O. Box 881, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0.
