Fort Macleod hosts triathlon

The Fort Macleod Triathlon in 2018 celebrates its 16th year of providing athletes of all ages and abilities with a chance for fun and participation.
The triathlon offers competition in four categories on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre.
“It’s a great physical challenge, but it’s certainly within the range of everyone,” organizer Alan Poytress said. “With the different races we offer, with a little bit of training anybody can do it.”
The event started as a mini triathlon, with distances in the three-event sport shortened for recreational athletes. Then athletes asked for an expanded course.
The triathlon has Olympic (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), sprint (500-m swim, 15 km bike, 5 km run),
super sprint (200-m swim, 10 km bike, 2 km run), youth (under 10 years of age, 100-m swim, 2 km bike, 1 km run) and relay categories.
While accommodating the serious triathlete, the triathlon has a reputation as a fun, family-oriented event.
