RCMP investigate rural break-ins

Thieves were active last month in the rural area surrounding Fort Macleod.
RCMP Const. Zach Stonley said in a news release Thursday police responded to several break-ins since mid July.
“The suspects appear to know that no one is home, and either find an open door or force entry to the residence,” Stonley said.
The thieves are quick once they are inside the residence, stealing electronics, cash and other items which are easily accessible
Stonley said people should lock doors and windows to deter would-be thieves.
“In addition, it is beneficial to record serial numbers on any electronics or other valuable items as this will help police track and hopefully locate stolen items,” Stonley added.
RCMP advise people to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people knocking on doors or going on rural property.
Stonley said would-be thieves may use a ploy or cover story when knocking on doors or entering properties to check if anyone is home.
If you have information regarding any break-ins or other crimes contact Fort Macleod RCMP at 403-553-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
