ASIRT seeking witnesses in Blairmore officer-involved shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting Feb. 10 in Blairmore.
The RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the parking lot of the Home Hardware store in Blairmore at about 5 p.m. Feb. 10.
Police believed the vehicle was associated with an investigation in the Crowsnest Pass area.
During the interaction that followed, a confrontation occurred between two RCMP and the lone occupant of the truck.
During that confrontation, both RCMP members discharged their service pistols.
The vehicle left the parking lot and travelled a short distance before coming to rest off the highway.
The RCMP provided first aid to the driver until the arrival of EMS, who pronounced the man dead on the scene.
ASIRT’s investigation is focusing on the actions of police during this incident.
The RCMP will maintain responsibility for the investigation that led to the traffic stop.
