Two Fort Macleod organizations were rewarded last week for the random acts of kindness

Fort Macleod Handibus Society and the Empress Theatre Society each received $500 grants from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta.

The community foundation celebrated Random Act of Kindness Day by encouraging people to perform random kind acts across southwestern Alberta.

“Random Act of Kindness Day is a perfect opportunity to promote kindness and charitable giving,” community foundation executive director Charleen Davidson said.

“Awarding the Kindness Grants is a fantastic way to show that kindness really does pay.”

Last week on Giving Tuesday, a global movement that promotes philanthropy, the foundation announced the recipients of ten $500 Kindness Grants.

Participants in Random Act of Kindness Day were encouraged to share their kind acts with the community foundation.

The submissions were entered into a random draw for the chance to award a $500 Kindness Grant to the local CRA-registered charity of the winner’s choosing.

Pioneer Lodge nominated the Fort Macleod Handibus Society in recognition of the service it provides seniors.

This is the second year for both the nomination and the grant.

“We are most grateful,” Linda Ripley of the handibus society said.

Jackie Sharp of greenery on main nominated the Empress Theatre Society in recognition of its place in the community, as well as its need for funding in a year limited by the pandemic.

“This is such exciting news for the Empress,” society president Denise Joel said.
