Graham, Irene

1923 — 2019

Irene Graham passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, in Rocky Mountain House at the age of 96. She was born in Fort Macleod and resided there 92 years before moving to Rocky Mountain House in 2016 to be closer to family.
Mom was very active in various organizations throughout the town. She was an honorary member of Legion, a member of Christ Church Anglican and an active member of the Seniors’ Welcome Mat.
Music was Irene’s passion and she became an excellent piano player at an early age. Irene played the piano for Gloria Bourasso’s tap dancing classes as well as numerous poppy teas and Remembrance Day ceremonies. Many youngsters took piano lessons from Mom. In the 1950s she produced a program consisting of local talent to raise money for polio.
Mom and Daisy Young started the first nursery school in Fort Macleod. She worked at Ida’s Drapery Shop before spending 10 years at the CIBC. After retiring she started a seniors’ choir at the Welcome Mat. They entertained at various functions throughout the town and at pot luck suppers.
Mom and Dad were married 71 years and Dad predeceased her in 2012. Both were residents of Pioneer Lodge in their later years.
Irene is survived by her two daughters. Jerrilynn (Hardy) and Maureen (Wayne); grandchildren Brad, Kelley, Trent, Dayna-Rae and Shannon; great grandchildren Melissa and Ainsley; and one great, great grandchild Liam. Irene is also survived by one sister Maxine Northey.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations to the Fort Macleod Handibus Society would be appreciated.
