Fund-raising for Fort Macleod’s new outdoor pool is off to a quick start.
Contributors dove right in and donated $51,000 in the first weeks — 20 per cent of the $250,000 goal.
“We’re going to build on that momentum and get excited about the pool opening,” Town of Fort Macleod chief administrative officer Sue Keenan said.
Demolition of the old pool is under way.
The new $2.85-million outdoor pool is to open in July 2021.
The Rotary Club of Fort Macleod led the way before fund-raising officially began, pledging $30,000 in January 2019.
The Town of Fort Macleod will contribute revenue it collected from companies filming the movies Let Him Go and Ghostbusters Afterlife.
On Thursday, the Town of Fort Macleod received a donation of more than $1,600 from Jon’s Independent Grocers from an in-store campaign.
There are several elements to the town’s fund-raising campaign.
Naming rights for the competitive six-lane pool are available for a contribution of $150,000.
Naming rights for the leisure pool are available for a donation of $100,000.
Lazy river naming rights are available for a donation of $95,000.
Businesses, organizations and individuals can put their name on the climbing wall for a donation of $25,000.
The various water spray features can be named for a donation of $15,000.
Contributions will be recognized on a donor’s wall that will be erected at the pool according to the following levels of contribution: diamond, $50,000 or more; platinum, $20,000 to $49,999; gold, $10,000 to $19,999; silver, $5,000 to $9,999; and friend, $150 to $4,999.
Donations of more than $500 will receive a family swim pass for the first year of the new pool’s operation.
The Town of Fort Macleod will issue tax receipts for donations of more than $150.
Donations to the Town of Fort Macleod Pool Project can be dropped off at the G.R. Davis Administration Building on 20th Street.
