F.P. Walshe Flyers finished fourth in a weekend junior high B girls preseason basketball tournament.
The host Flyers opened the tournament in Pool A with Picture Butte Sugar Queens and Nobleford Blades.
Pool B was made up of Mountain View Grizzlies, Matthew Halton Hawks and Willow Creek Composite Cobras from Claresholm.
Queens 34 Flyers 23
Picture Butte Sugar Queens downed the Flyers 34-23 Saturday morning in the first game of the tournament.
It was a low-scoring game to start, with Picture Butte leading 4-2 after the first quarter and pulling ahead 12-4 by halftime.
The Flyers managed nine points in the third quarter but Picture Butte responded with 14 of their own.
The Flyers outscored the Sugar Queens 10-8 in the fourth quarter but the game ended with Picture Butte in front 34-23.
Emma Grier was top scorer for the Flyers with 10 points.
Kaylin Delaney had five points, Denae Feyter had four and Hanna Alexander and Sharlene Maljaars each had two points.
Flyers 34 Blades 10
F.P. Walshe was sharp in its second game Saturday morning, downing Noble Central Blades 34-10.
The Flyers built an 18-2 halftime led on their way to the victory.
Hanna Alexander and Kaylin Delaney each scored eight points for the Flyers.
Emma Grier and Rowan O’Connor had six apiece for F.P. Walshe, Avery Rippin had four points and Sharlene Maljaars had two.
Hawks 36 Flyers 30
Their 1-1 record in round-robin put the Flyers into the third-place playoff game against Matthew Halton Hawks from Pincher Creek.
The Hawks prevailed in a tight battle, winning 36-30.
The teams were tied 8-8 after the first quarter and Matthew Halton led 18-16 at halftime.
The Hawks increased their lead to 30-24 in the third quarter and then held off a determined Flyers team in the fourth to win 36-30.
Hanna Alexander was top scorer for the Flyers with eight points and Denae Feyter and Emma Grier had six apiece.
Avery Rippin had four points for F.P. Walshe and Rowan O’Connor, Kaylin Delaney and Sharlene Maljaars each had two.
