Fort Macleod Lions, Royal Purple selling duck race tickets

Tickets are still available for the third annual duck race sponsored by the Lions Club and Royal Purple.

Psst! Wanna buy a duck?

Fort Macleod Lions Club and the Royal Purple have more than 500 ducks left to sell in their third annual fund-raising duck race.

Last year, the two service groups sold all 2,000 ducks for the race, which offers $1,000 prizes for the first and last ducks plucked.

The duck race provides a lot of fun, and it’s for a good cause.

“All the proceeds go back to the community from both clubs,” Lion Griff Griffith said Friday.

The duck race takes place the morning of Saturday, Aug. 28 in the town parking lot at the corner of Third Avenue and Main Street, next to The Macleod Gazette.

All the ducks will come out of a cement mixer provided by O’Sullivan Construction.

While the first and last ducks net their owners the $1,000 prizes, other ducks are plucked from a wading pool for a variety of prizes.

The draw prizes include 30 containers of cotton candy, mugs, lawn chairs, an automotive creeper, Lions campground pass, gift certificates, water bottles, pails of honey, gift baskets, a crib board and cards, belt and holster, hats, backpacks, lanterns, towel set, aprons and more.

“It’s totally amazing how the town comes together,” Lion Heather Sopher said.

The Lions held the first duck race on their own, and last year invited the Royal Purple to take part.

The Royal Purple had their own rubber ducks, eliminating the cost of renting ducks so the profit is bigger.

Tickets are $5 apiece and are available from Diane at Hansen Family Foods, Michelle at Fort Pharmacy and Steve at Top Shelf Liquor.

You can also get tickets from Angie O’Connor at 403-330-6851, Griff Griffith at 587-220-1470 or Heather Sopher at 403-715-2994.
