Market on Main will run from 5:30-8 p.m. on Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Aug. 26, Sept. 2 and Sept. 9, weather permitting with about 25 vendors.

Market on Main returns this week following a one-year absence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first market of the season is Thursday, Aug. 5 from 5:30-8 p.m. on Main Street between Second and Third avenues.

“Since we started in 2017, we have grown each year that we have held

the market,” organizers Korine Kreft, Naomi Faulkner and Sonya Brobbel wrote in a letter to business owners. “We have worked with local

businesses, vendors, community groups and the Town of Fort Macleod in order to make that happen.”

“Market on Main makes our town look good.”

The organizers cancelled the 2020 season due to the public health

restrictions in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The Fort Macleod Agricultural Society operates a Farmer’s Market

on Thursdays at Midnight Stadium Agriplex.

Market on Main organizers said the Farmer’s Market works well, but does not bring people to Main Street. Supporting downtown businesses is a goal of Market on Main.

“Main Street is where it all happens in this town and we would like to bring the people back — locals and visitors alike,” the organizers wrote. “Seventy-two per cent of Albertans shop at markets from time to time and we strongly believe that in a small town like Fort Macleod that percentage is even higher.”

Market on Main organizers urge downtown businesses to participate by staying open late on Thursdays and finding creative ways to attract customers.

“We believe that Market on Main can continue to draw customers to

our town,” the organizers noted. “Customers who like what they see, enjoy the atmosphere and come back time and time again.”

Market on Main will run from 5:30-8 p.m. on Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Aug. 26, Sept. 2 and Sept. 9, weather permitting with about 25 vendors.

Booths will be rented to food

producers, artisans, food trucks and other vendors. There will be vegetables and fruit from Greenwood Colony and Sunshine Market Garden, leather goods from Circle V Leather and Hide and Cork, handmade jewellery from Knot Just Sew,  dog treats from  Lucky Dog Treats and baked goods from Grandma Num Nums and Tessa’s Baking.

The markets will also feature fresh garden bouquets from the Gardenerettes, soap from Splish Splash Soap Shop, Horizon Herbs, and the Relaxation Station, and handmade crochet tea towels by Marilyn Maier.

Food trucks will be parked in the Town of Fort Macleod parking lot at the corner of Main Street and Third Avenue. So far, V’s Cheese, That Hawaiian Burger Truck, Kona Ice, and Rollin’ Bones Smoke Shack have indicated they will attend some or all markets. Patter’s Food Truck will attend in September.

Entertainment will be part of each Market on Main.
